Curly Oak Knitting Chest

This is another knitting or sewing chest made from a beautiful piece of curly oak. Normally I'm not all that fond of oak -  I guess because of all the oak floors and cabinets I've seen. This piece of wood was really exceptional. I finished it with an amber dye stain and a mixture of garnet and orange shellac. This makes the oak a little darker and richer looking and also brings out the figure and grain a bit more. The final dimensions are roughly 15" long x 11" wide and 12" high.

The handle on the top is carved from a chunk of cocobolo.
