Spiegel Grove

June 2002

(continued)

On my last day of diving, Capt Steve returned for a single dive on the Spiegel Grove that was followed by a shallow reef dive. There were a bunch of boats moored into the wreck and plenty of divers on it.

I still couldn't get over the blueness of the water and the open, spacey feeling of diving in clear water.

This time I was more or less diving on my own. My erstwhile buddies were no where to be found when I got down to the wreck. So I kept my eye on the rest of the group from the Dual Porpoise and had fun exploring on my own.

Cruising along the hull.

Looking back over the deck.

A couple of the massive "spools" for hauling in cables.

Looking into one of the many little cabins along the deck. Next time I'd like to explore inside some of these.

A couple of the other Dual Porpoise divers cavorting in the open water off the deck.

Finally an anxious Gabriele signaled us to turn back, but seeing I had gobs of air left, she left me and headed up with the others.

I spotted my "buddies" returning from the bow of the ship and we used up our remaining time exploring the stern.

When the ship sunk the massive deck covering the rear cargo area fell off and now rests in the sand.

A passing school of tuna (?).

The huge propeller around the back of the ship

Finally my air was beginning to run low and with great reluctance I headed up the mooring line.

One last shot of the Spiegel Grove and it's "pet " barracuda.
